Following its UK release earlier this year, GIANT will officially release across the United States on May 22 in theaters and on VOD through Vertical Entertainment.
Directed by Rowan Athale and executive produced by Sylvester Stallone, the film tells the extraordinary true story of legendary British-Yemeni boxer Prince Naseem Hamed and his life-changing relationship with renowned trainer Brendan Ingle.
Starring Amir El-Masry as Naz alongside Pierce Brosnan as Brendan Ingle, GIANT charts Naz’s remarkable rise from humble beginnings in Sheffield to becoming one of boxing’s most iconic world champions.
I had the privilege of being the composer and music supervisor for GIANT.
Building the Musical World of GIANT
The score was designed to evolve alongside Naz’s journey throughout the film. Moving from intimate emotional moments into the swagger, momentum and spectacle that defined his rise inside and outside the ring.
Because the story spans multiple decades, the music draws from a wide range of influences, including:
1980s synth textures
1990s techno and breakbeats
hip hop production
orchestral elements
atmospheric electronic sound design
At the heart of the score is a recurring melodic theme representing both Naz and Brendan Ingle’s relationship, as well as the emotional fragility beneath ambition and fame.
A Story Beyond Boxing
While GIANT captures the excitement and energy of boxing at the highest level, what drew me most to the project was its emotional core.
The film explores mentorship, identity, belief and transformation. The music was always focused on supporting those human elements as much as the spectacle of Naz’s rise.
Working across both composition and music supervision allowed me to help shape the wider sonic identity of the film and create a musical language that felt authentic to each era of Naz’s life.
Now Available in the US
I’m incredibly proud to have been part of this project and excited for US audiences to finally experience the film.
